Carsten is specialized in cold weather photography. Even extreme temperatures like -50 degrees, don't keep him indoors. One must like winter-camping and the outdoors. Taking pictures in a harsh arctic enviroment takes special equipment. Beside reliable transportation you need excellent clothing, winter-camping gear and survival equipment. Your life may depend on the material. There is excellent gear available which protects you from the cold. But to keep the sensible cameras, laptop and other electronic equipment working takes some special care and inventions.

Carsten hat sich auf die Fotografie in extrem kalten Wetter spezialsiert. Selbst Temperaturen von -50 C halten ihn nicht zurück. Man muss Wintercamping und die Outdoors mögen. Wenn man Fotos in dieser harten, arktischen Umwelt machen will, muss man sich auf seine Ausrüstung verlassen können. Neben zuverlässigen Transport braucht man exzellente Bekleidung, Campingausrüstung. Es gibt exzellente Ausrüstungen die einen vor der Kälte schützen. Aber um die sensiblen Kameras, den Laptop und die andere elektronische Ausrüstung zu schützen, braucht man Erfahrung und Erfindungsgeist.

The latest addition to my equipment was the  Fjellduken (The Jerven Bag), a protectice tarp product to the Norwegian hunters and Armed Forces. I use the Jervenbag Thermo Extreme, if you sit and wait for hours at -45 C this bag will keep you warm. I consider this product my most valuable piece of survival equipment.
